Day 8, Barossa day 3 - Lobethal AGP Circuit and Birdwood Museum

Lobethal AGP Circuit and Birdwood Museum

Another wet morning and we decided to give the convoy a ½ hour start and then us, McKinnon's, Hirst's and Blundell's followed.
The weather cleared a little but it was still quite cold and the wind had again picked up.  The first stop was “The Whispering Wall”.  This is an artifact of the first arch dam wall built in South Australia where its shape gives it the unique feature where you can stand on one end of the wall and speak quite softly and someone on the other end, some 140 metres away, can hear you very clearly. We arrived as the others were leaving so we had effectively caught them at this point.
From here, the next stop was the worlds tallest Rocking Horse (it should be noted that it doesn’t actually rock but it is very tall, scaled at 20 times a conventional rocking horse).

Alan spent Maritta's $2 and was elected to climbed to the top in spite of not being happy at heights.  We did think we had lost him for a few minutes but he re-appeared....eventually.
From here, we drove around the old Lobethal Grand Prix track and then moved on to the magnificent Birdwood Motor Museum for lunch.  The weather closed back in and the rain started as we arrived at the museum. After lunch we toured the museum, including taking a look at the progress on the Alvis FWD AGP car.

Leaving the museum - we stopped in Springton to see the Herbig Family Tree then on to find a couple of wineries before reaching the motel.  We managed to get in to Saltram Wines just before the heavens opened up and by the time the navigators had completed their wine tasting and the drivers had a cup of Tea or Coffee the sun was "sort of" shining and we could motor on in comfort.

Tonight was the Theme Night at Dinner, being VINTAGE, and there was quite a range of costumes.
