Day 2, Apollo Bay to Portland

Apollo Bay to Portland

Early start for breakfast, then a nice drive further along Great Ocean Road to our first stop at the 12 Apostles.  There was only ever been 9 apostles however there are now 8.  The name was deemed a fitting reflecting the biblical reference to 12 Apostles.  Several of the touring party took a helicopter flight over the Apostles which was spectacular.  We created a bit of a spectacle in the car park.  Due to delays in organising the flight it became a rushed trip to get to Portland.

Getting late we had a very quick lunch (sandwiches in the carpark) on the run from Allansford Cheese Factory, a quick stop for fuel in Warnambool. The Todd’s Speed 20 special had a front brake lock on for some reason which delayed us a bit but we eventually made Portland by about 5pm.

Very nice dinner at the Hotel where Dales sister Robyn and family had arranged (after a few miss-directions) to meet us for dinner.

Day 1 , Home to Winchelsea to Apollo Bay,

Home to Winchelsea and Apollo Bay
Left home at about 9:30 a.m. anticipating about 2.5 hours to Winchelsea to meet up for lunch with the full touring party opting to take the Great Ocean Road to the Barossa Valley.  This is west of Geelong and Geelomg is west of Melbourne.   The majority of the Victorian attendees travelling to South Australia along the Great Ocean Road are coming from the North and will take a circuitous route through the edge of the City.
Freeway west of Melbourne
Unfortunately there was an accident just before the tunnel and after about 20 minutes of stop start/ idling etc our Silver Eagle ((no fan) succumbed to the heat and we had to pull over, sending Norman and Claire (with fan) on to the lunch rendezvous in Winchelsea.
West of Melbourne
Car cooled, traffic cleared and we made the lunch stop just before everyone left. having taken a relaxed lunch at “CafĂ© Le Hoot” and then on the Great Ocean Road. Somehow we managed to overtake everyone on the way to Apollo Bay without seeing anyone and got to the Motel "first".

Then came a frantic phone call from Noeline, Mike H had run out of petrol so Dale borrowed Chester and Sally’s modern to take some life giving fluid back to Mike’s 12/50 and ensure the McKinnins didn't suffer the same fate.

Some all gathered together drinks and cheese prior to an excellent dinner at the local Hotel.
