Day 10, Barossa day 5 - Tununda and surrounds

Tununda and surrounds

Today marks the final day of the rally - we awoke to yet another very wet morning.  Today the rally participants were split into two groups - and as we refused to partake in the convoy line-up process we are by default in Group 2..

With the weather easing off our first stop is at the Lindner Car collection. This is quite an amazing collection of both pre and post war Jaguars including a couple of very original cars. Yet another car enthusiast with the same affliction - doesn't know where to stop! The collection consists of a number of beautifully restored cars, then a larger number of cars awaiting various levels of TLC. The only non Jaguar (or SS) car in the collection is a huge Lincoln Zephyr which was originally owned by a local gangster.

Dragging the boys away from the garage our next stop was the local “KEGEL” club. This is the for-runner of 10 pin bowling and is the only original length Kegel Alley in the world. Originating in Germany the game has survived where club members meet twice a week for a game but as they are the only one there is no district or world championship. Having said that, if you are in Tununda (SA), it is well worth a visit and the experience is quite moving and very challenging.  About half of our group had a try with Norman B getting the highest score in our group (32) and Maritta the highest women's score (22) across both groups but the highest score overall was Geoff F with 36.  Even encouraged (coerced) Tudor to have a go!
Next stop was the local high school for lunch and then on to the Barossa Chateau and the Thumm porcelain collection. This is a priceless collection of porcelain items put together by the original founders of the Yaldara Winery and is still owned by the family.

From here we returned to the motel to pack for home and the final dinner tonight. We were advised that the next rally in 2017 will be in Queensland (somewhere?).
